Pop

Dear Pop,

You are the only grandpa I ever had. And now you're gone. I haven't seen you in over three years and sometimes when I think about that, it makes me sad, but other times, I am at peace with knowing that the last time I saw you, you were still yourself. I can always remember you the way you were.

You have always been such a great grandpa. You never made any of your grandkids feel left out. You had such a huge heart and you cared about everyone. Mom told me about all the amazing things you did when she was growing up, like waking up in the middle of the night to put coals in the furnace! I never knew that. You always went out of your way to do everything for everyone. It was like you never sat down...always going and going. And it was always for someone else. I'm pretty sure you didn't have a selfish bone in your body.

You served in WWII and that still blows me away. You always loved telling your stories about what happened over there, like the time you heard a voice tell you to get out of the way and as soon as you moved, a bomb landed exactly where you were standing. God was definitely looking out for you, Pop.

Your testament of love to Nan was also wonderful to watch. You did everything for her and you were always faithful. Your marriage is exactly what I hope and pray for my own marriage...the true testament of love. Nan always looked out for you and you did the same for her. I will never forget the amount of love that I saw in your life together.

You lived an amazing and long life. 90 years old is definitely something to brag about! Thanks for hanging in there as long as you did those last years. We weren't ready to let you go, but I don't really think we ever really were. I am so happy that you were around to see me grow up. I'm so very sorry you never met your great-grandchildren. I will always regret that. Know that they love you and will absolutely hear stories about their amazing and strong Poppy.

You astound me with all of your strength, Pop. You raised some amazing children that went on to raise some amazing grandchildren. We will miss you so very much, Pop. You will never be forgotten and you will always be missed on this earth. Tell Uncle Jeff we say hi and we love you both so very, very much.

Love always and forever,
Lindsey

Just so you know, one of my other blogger friends asked for directions and I gave them to you by accident....can you say "losing it." Sorry about that.

Oh, that is so sweet. I'm so sorry you lost your Pop. :( It doesn't matter how old a person gets, it never feels right when they're gone. My grandmother will be 86 next month. I start crying just thinking about her not being here. I'm tearing up now. Thanks for sharing your Pop with us. I'm glad you stopped by my blog. :) I am following you back now...
